Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg died on September 18th 2020 from metastatic pancreatic cancer. The announcement was made in the evening by the Supreme Court.
The 87 year old cultural icon was the 2nd woman to serve on the Supreme Court when appointed in 1993. She supported the fight for women's rights from the start of her career and in 1972 she founded the ACLU's Women’s Rights Project.
The progressive judge served for 27 years on the Supreme Court and was described as a "tireless and resolute champion of justice” by Chief Justice John Roberts.
She will be interred in a private service to be held at Arlington National Cemetery.
